Jim Weichert’s story begins with initiative, creativity, and the courage to take big risks.
With his freshly minted real estate broker’s license in hand, the brash twenty-something opened his own real estate office in Chatham, NJ in 1969 amid dozens of established real estate competitors. He didn’t wait for customers to find him, but instead handed out business cards at local train stations each morning and afternoon, greeting prospective customers commuting to New York City. His approach was refreshing and highly personal, supporting his long-held belief that “people buy people before they buy your product or service.”
That could have been the end of the story, but it was just the beginning.
Weichert, Realtors® grew steadily through prospecting, but even more importantly, through active recruiting and training of sales associates attracted to Weichert’s explosive growth, innovative marketing, and “people first” business philosophy. The company then grew exponentially through aggressive mergers and acquisitions, including some with nearby competitors.
Opening additional offices in expanded markets taught Jim what it takes for real estate businesses to flourish: solid operational systems and outstanding sales teams. By perfecting those systems and recruiting strategies, he created a business model that other brokers could follow with ease and greater certainty.
Since franchising in 2002, Jim and his leadership team have welcomed thousands of brokers and associates onboard, providing tools, systems, and support unlike anyone else in the business.
Today, with nearly 500 corporate and affiliate offices in 39 states, that iconic yellow Weichert® logo is making its mark in more towns and cities every day — making the experience of buying or selling a home a positive one for families from coast to coast.
Still serving as chairman, Jim is sole owner and founder of one of the largest independently owned providers of home ownership services in the country. Yet his passion for the industry and fellow REALTORS® remains unchanged. He and his franchise team continue to refine and improve the Weichert System, so that every franchisee stays ahead of the curve.
