King is a native of North Carolina and has lived in Durham for over a decade. He joined the United States Army immediately after graduating high school, where he proudly served for eight years. Upon completion of his military service, King worked in law enforcement for three years before returning to college to study social science at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
