Holly Higgins excited to be an AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteer
SUN CITY, S.C. / Jan. 30, 2018 – Holly Higgins loves helping people, whether it’s finding a dream home for a client or a random act of kindness for a stranger, she does it with a smile.
No surprise then to hear the Sun City real estate agent is volunteering with the AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide Program to help provide free tax assistance and preparation for low and moderate-income taxpayers this year. It’s something she’s done for the past four years.
“Preparing your taxes can be overwhelming and that can be especially true for seniors who are now retired or may have experienced other life changes last year that make their taxes a little more complicated,” said Higgins. “I’m grateful for the opportunity AARP has given me to help folks like this over the years.”
Higgins, an AARP member who has lived in Sun City since 2012, is not a certified public accountant. The fourth-year real estate agent, however, completes a two-week mandatory training each year to become an IRS-certified volunteer tax preparer, which she considers a blessing.
“I’m blessed to have an opportunity that allows me to give back to a community that has been so supportive over the years,” added Higgins. “It brings a smile to my face.”
Tax season for Higgins begins February 5 when she starts helping both AARP and non-AARP members in the Hilton Head area with their tax returns.
