SAUGERTIES, N.Y. / March 15, 2017 – It’s not the flowing brown locks of hair that she normally sports, but this new hairdo definitely works for REALTOR® Edith Knisell. She shaved her head to help raise funds for childhood cancer research.
The Athens real estate agent participated in a head-shaving fundraiser on March 5 at the senior citizens center in Saugerties. Proceeds from the event benefitted the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a non-profit organization that funds childhood cancer research.
“Shaving my head was a fun way for me to help raise money for an organization that funds life-saving research for kids that are battling cancer,” said Knisell, who works at WEICHERT, REALTORS® – Fontaine & Associates in Athens. “It also cuts down on the amount of time I spend each morning fixing my hair. I was truly honored to participate in this fundraising event and look forward to doing it again.”
Knisell first learned about the St. Baldrick’s Foundation back in 2015, the same year she participated in her first head-shaving fundraiser. She set a fundraising goal of $1,000 dollars for this year’s event, an amount she easily surpassed and continues to add to.
“I was completely blown away by the tremendous amount of support I received, and continue to receive, from family members, friends and co-workers. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer to finding a cure for childhood cancer,” added the Cairo resident who joined WEICHERT, REALTORS® – Fontaine & Associates last summer.
“Edith is one of the most caring souls a person could ever meet,” said Don Fontaine, the owner/broker at WEICHERT, REALTORS® – Fontaine & Associates. “She would give you the shirt off her back, if needed. We didn’t hesitate a second before saying yes when Edith asked our office to help support this event.”
WEICHERT, REALTORS® – Fontaine & Associates is an independently owned and operated Weichert affiliated office. The company has offices in Athens and Delmar that serve the Capital District, Greene County and Columbia County.
