REALTORS® Tell Fighting Irish Football Fans To "Park It" To Help Support Local Charities

— Rich Casamento

South Bend, Ind., Dec. 16, 2016 – Notre Dame attracted some of the largest college football crowds in the country this season. The Fighting Irish had no problem filling their 80,000 seat stadium for home games.
But finding reasonably priced game day parking near the stadium was.
Parking near Notre Dame Stadium came at a premium. Lot operators close to the stadium charged up to $40 to park this season, which allowed them to pocket big bucks on game days. But not all lot operators this season were in it for the money. Some, like WEICHERT, REALTORS® – Jim Dunfee & Associates, opened its lots for game day parking to help others.
The South Bend real estate company only charged $10 to park in its N. Ironwood Road lot for Notre Dame’s six home games this season. Something the office has done annually dating back to 2011 as part of its “Parking For A Cause” campaign, which raises funds for local charities. This year’s campaign raised $7,545 – bringing its total since inception to $26,942 – and benefited the Making Strides of Michiana Breast Cancer Walk, the Ronald McDonald House of Michiana, Hope & Second Chances – Community Animal Rescue Effort of South Bend, Christmas Commandos, A Rosie Place and the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.
Working a game day parking detail required long hours, but WEICHERT, REALTORS® – Jim Dunfee & Associates was up for the challenge. A team of agents and support staff, led by Kathy Rice, the company’s chief financial officer, worked sun up to sun down every game day waving signs to attract drivers to their building and direct traffic in the lot. They also walked the parking lot with their company’s mascot to collect donations for the fundraising campaign.
“We put in long hours parking cars on game days, but my team and I knew it was totally worth it,” said Rice, who organizes the fundraising effort for the office each year. “We were out there raising money to help support organizations in our community that we care deeply about. And we’ll be out there again next season to keep supporting our neighborhood charities.”
Caring about the communities it serves is nothing new to WEICHERT, REALTORS® – Jim Dunfee & Associates. The office has found various ways over the years to give back to the community since opening its doors in 1958.
“Our office believes deeply in supporting local organizations that commit themselves to helping those in need,” said Jim Dunfee, the broker/owner of WEICHERT, REALTORS® – Jim Dunfee & Associates.“ What Kathy and her team did again this season demonstrates our desire to be a part of a community that cares about others.”
WEICHERT, REALTORS® – Jim Dunfee & Associates is an independently owned and operated Weichert affiliated agency. The office serves the greater South Bend area.
